VULVODYNIA/VAGINISMUS
Vulvodynia is a chronic condition characterized by unexplained, persistent pain or discomfort in the vulva, the external genital area of a woman. The pain may be described as burning, stinging, or throbbing and can occur during activities such as sexual intercourse or even simple daily activities.
Vaginismus is a condition where there is involuntary muscle spasms or tightening of the muscles around the vagina, making penetration painful or impossible. It is often related to anxiety or fear of vaginal penetration, and it can affect sexual intercourse, gynecological exams, or the use of tampons.
Vulvodynia, characterized by chronic vulvar pain, and vaginismus, marked by involuntary pelvic muscle spasms, can be addressed through a multidisciplinary approach involving physical therapy, counseling, and sometimes medications.
Treatment aims to alleviate pain, improve sexual function, and enhance overall quality of life, with individualized plans based on the specific needs and factors contributing to each condition.
